The Economic Survey is an annual publication of the Government of India which informs citizens of the state of the economy in the previous year. Released annually on the day prior to the presentation of the annual budget, it contains information on how the economic and social sectors faired in the previous year and the state of fiscal balance including external sector performance. In addition, it contains qualitative commentaries on the rationale behind past action, reasons for extra-ordinary variances in performance as well as hints towards how the government may steer the economy in the future.
