Government Public Performance Reporting—Is It Worth the Effort?

Public accountability demands that performance data be publicly available. But who actually uses the vast amount of information that is produced and does it really improve the lives of citizens by enhancing government performance?  After more than 20 years of public reporting of government performance information, the author of this publication shares that for a reporting framework to be effective and sustained over time, nine lessons should be incorporated in the public reporting approach.
