To review the state of the financial management system in New Zealand, the Comptroller and Auditor-General, New Zealand commissioned Ernst & Young to help them examine what best practice in public financial management look like and then compare these to the current system – within agencies and throughout government. It became clear from the review that, overall, the financial management system is on par with many other developed countries (such as Singapore, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Australia), but it is also clear that there is room for improvement.
