Government of India constituted a committee under the chairmanship of C.R.Sundaramurti, Controller General of Accounts to review the present accounting classification system and to develop a system better suited to display the nature and objective of Government expenditure. The primary purpose of the Committee was to develop a revised Accounting Classification Structure which could address various issues raised by many stake holders for better planning of resources, budgeting, accounting and availability of more useful Government financial information. The proposed revised classification structure has been presented in the 'Compendium of Accounting Classification Codes for Union and States'.
